P-N Intumescent Flame Retardant IFR-P200B for Polypropylene
Halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR) for PP in extrusion and injection moulding IFR-P200B
INTRODUCTION: IFR-P200B, mainly contains N and P, is a kind of halogen free environmentally friendly flame retardant for polyolefin. It was developed especially for various PP products, and can be used in other polyolefin products as well. With acid source, gas source and carbon source, IFR-P200B takes effect by char formation and intumescent mechanism. PP with IFR-P200B can pass the tests of UL94 V-0 (1.5mm), 70℃×168 hrs water-immersion (UL746C); besides, it can also pass the tests of GWIT 750℃ and GWFI 960℃. Moreover, it is free from the restrictions of RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU approved by the EU and the Council. The products with IFR-P200B have the characteristics as low density, lower smoke generation, less mold corrosion and low price. PE with IFR-P200B, in some degree, may have the phenomenon of water-sliding surface during the process of extrusion; however, PP with IFR-P200B will not have this situation. NO anti-dripping agent.

NOTES:
1. Because of the decomposition temperature of IFR-P200B in nitrogen is 250℃, the processing temperature of twin screw can be adjusted in accordance with the actual need (no more than 220℃. Under the condition of making IFR-P200B dispersed and mixed homogeneous, the processing temperature should not be too high so that it can avoid decomposition of the flame retardant resulting in slight foaming. The sieve should be removed during the process of extrusion, or it’s easy to get foaming. Maintain vacuum of the twin screw during the processing is also needed.
2. Filler: It is recommended to use wollastonite and silica fume as fillers; Talcum powder, barium sulfate, etc. have a certain impact on the flame retardant effect, and it is not recommended to add them in large quantities;
Carbonates such as calcium carbonate can seriously affect the flame retardant effect and are not recommended for use.
3. If the dosage of carbon black is higher than 0.5%, the flame retardant performance will be weakened. Adding inorganic substances (glass fiber, calcium carbonate, talc, barium sulfate and so on) will affect the flame retardant performance. Adding additives containing Br, Cl (etc.) will lead to ineffectiveness of flame retardant.
PACKAGE & STORAGE: 25kg/package. Transported as the common chemicals. Keep in dry, cool place and avoid direct sunlight.
Q4. Is IFR-P200B environmentally friendly and RoHS compliant? Yes. It is halogen-free and contains no restricted substances under the EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. It also generates low smoke in a fire, supporting safer, more eco-conscious product designs.
Q5. How is IFR-P200B different from APP-based flame retardants? IFR-P100A is a non-APP intumescent system. Compared with conventional APP products, it offers higher thermal stability, a higher decomposition temperature, and better processability. Polyolefin compounds show no "water-sliding" surface during extrusion, and sieves can be used at the die head.
Q6. What processing conditions are recommended for IFR-P200B? With a decomposition temperature of 270 °C under nitrogen, processors can safely raise the twin-screw barrel temperature for better melt flow and throughput. Keep a continuous vacuum on the extruder and mount a sieve/screen pack at the die head for cleaner output.
Q7. Which colorants or additives should be avoided with IFR-P200B? Avoid chloride-containing pigments, especially phthalocyanine green, as chlorides can deactivate the flame retardant. Also keep carbon black loading ≤ 0.5% — higher dosages weaken flame-retardant performance.
Q8. What benefits do parts with IFR-P200B offer? Parts show low density, low smoke generation, and minimal mold corrosion, along with smooth, reliable extrusion — a good balance of fire safety, processing, and long tool life.
Q9. What is the recommended dosage of IFR-P200B? The optimum loading depends on the target flammability rating, polymer grade, part thickness, and full formulation. Contact our technical team for a recommended starting recipe tailored to your application.
