Product Description

Halogen-Free Flame Retardant for Polypropylene | IFR-P100B – UL 94 V-0, RoHS Compliant

IFR-P100A is a nitrogen–phosphorus, halogen-free flame retardant engineered for polyolefins — a non-APP intumescent system offering high thermal stability, a high decomposition temperature, and easy processing.

PP fire performance:

  • UL 94 V-0 @ 0.75 mm
  • UL 746C water-immersion (70 °C × 168 h) passed
  • GWIT 750 °C / GWFI 960 °C
  • Glass-fiber reinforced PP: V-0 @ 1.5 mm

Key benefits: RoHS compliant (2011/65/EU), low density, low smoke, minimal mold corrosion, and smooth extrusion — no water-sliding surface, with sieve mounting at the die head supported.

IFR-P100A – Processing & Compatibility Guide

Processing Tips IFR-P100A withstands 270 °C (N₂ atmosphere), so you can safely raise twin-screw barrel temperature for better melt flow and throughput.

  • Mount a sieve/screen pack at the die head to remove contaminants.
  • Keep a continuous vacuum on the twin-screw to strip moisture and volatiles.

Colorant & Additive Limits

  • Avoid chloride pigments (e.g., phthalocyanine green) — chlorides can deactivate the flame retardant.
  • Keep carbon black ≤ 0.5% — higher loadings weaken flame-retardant performance.

Q1. What is IFR-P100A? IFR-P100A is a halogen-free, environmentally friendly flame retardant based on a nitrogen–phosphorus (N–P) system. Unlike conventional APP-based products, it is a non-APP intumescent system that combines high thermal stability with easy processing.

Q2. Which plastics is IFR-P100A suitable for? It is designed for polyolefins, primarily polypropylene (PP), including glass-fiber reinforced PP. It is a good choice for injection-molded and extruded parts that need flame-retardant ratings.

Q3. What flame-retardant standards can PP with IFR-P100A pass? In polypropylene, IFR-P100A achieves:

  • UL 94 V-0 at 0.75 mm
  • UL 746C water-immersion (70 °C × 168 h)
  • GWIT 750 °C and GWFI 960 °C
  • UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm in glass-fiber reinforced PP

Q4. Is IFR-P100A environmentally friendly and RoHS compliant? Yes. It is halogen-free and contains no restricted substances under the EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. It also generates low smoke in a fire, supporting safer, more eco-conscious product designs.

Q5. How is IFR-P100A different from APP-based flame retardants? IFR-P100A is a non-APP intumescent system. Compared with conventional APP products, it offers higher thermal stability, a higher decomposition temperature, and better processability. Polyolefin compounds show no "water-sliding" surface during extrusion, and sieves can be used at the die head.

Q6. What processing conditions are recommended for IFR-P100A? With a decomposition temperature of 270 °C under nitrogen, processors can safely raise the twin-screw barrel temperature for better melt flow and throughput. Keep a continuous vacuum on the extruder and mount a sieve/screen pack at the die head for cleaner output.

Q7. Which colorants or additives should be avoided with IFR-P100A? Avoid chloride-containing pigments, especially phthalocyanine green, as chlorides can deactivate the flame retardant. Also keep carbon black loading ≤ 0.5% — higher dosages weaken flame-retardant performance.

Q8. What benefits do parts with IFR-P100A offer? Parts show low density, low smoke generation, and minimal mold corrosion, along with smooth, reliable extrusion — a good balance of fire safety, processing, and long tool life.

Q9. What is the recommended dosage of IFR-P100A? The optimum loading depends on the target flammability rating, polymer grade, part thickness, and full formulation. Contact our technical team for a recommended starting recipe tailored to your application.
